The ISO standard 4301-1:1988 and FEM rule 9.511/86 make is possible to classify electric rope hoists based on their use and the parameters necessary for determining the limits of use are the following:

 1st - ACTUAL LIFTING CAPACITY

This is determined by the heaviest load to be lifted (The nominal lifting capacity of the hoist must be the actual lifting capacity - Lifting capacity = kg)

2nd - THE STATE OF STRESS ( Load Spectrum )

The state of stress is evaluated considering the average entity of the loads lifted and is ascribable to one of the four spectrums load

3rd - AVERAGE DURATION OF DAILY OPERATION

For LIFTING operations the average duration of operation is calculated as follows:

 Tm (hours) = (AHR x C/h x Rt) / (30 x S)

 Where:

 AHR : Actual Hook Run

C/h : N° of  complete ascents and descents carried out in one hour

Rt : Hoisting running time in whole day

S : Hoisting Speed
